Try the lower end of the volume control

Ask to hear the amp at an ordinary room level, not only at the setting used for a store demonstration. Turn it down and check whether a small movement produces a manageable change or a sudden jump. Play both quiet notes and a firm chord. The amp should let you find a level that suits the space without requiring unusually delicate knob positioning.

Compare the sound you want at that level. Some players rely on a particular driven response; others mainly need a clean platform for practice. A model with a power-reduction mode or master volume may offer useful options, but the controls should be tried rather than treated as proof that every sound is available quietly.

Plan where the cabinet will sit

Measure depth as well as width, including plugs and ventilation clearance specified by the maker. A small amp on a shelf can still be awkward if its controls face the wall or its handle prevents it from fitting. Avoid balancing it on an unstable object simply to bring the speaker closer to ear height.

The direction of the speaker matters for what you hear. If it points at your legs, you may turn up to compensate. An appropriate stand or tilt arrangement can help with listening position, provided it is designed to support the amp securely. It does not eliminate sound traveling to other rooms.

Separate room sound from private practice

If quiet hours are important, verify the headphone function directly. Check whether the speaker mutes, whether the output has a useful guitar sound and whether a backing track can be heard at the same time. Headphones still leave the physical sound of strings and picking in the room, but they can avoid amplifying it through the cabinet.

Agree on a realistic practice location and schedule with others in the home. A product described as a bedroom amp is not a guarantee that it will be inaudible next door. Floor construction, shared walls and the way the cabinet is placed all affect what other people experience.

Choose the smallest complete setup that performs your actual tasks comfortably, rather than the smallest enclosure at any cost. An easy volume control, reachable headphone socket and stable placement can matter more than another bank of effects. If occasional rehearsals require a different system, assess that need separately instead of making every evening practice revolve around a large amp.
