Read what the output actually does
Look for a specifically labeled headphone output and read the model manual. A speaker output is not a substitute, even if an adapter could make the plugs fit. Confirm whether inserting headphones mutes the internal speaker and whether that behavior can be changed. Do not assume a socket marked line out provides a suitable headphone signal.
Check the connector size and whether the manufacturer specifies any headphone requirements. A short, securely fitting adapter may be convenient, but avoid a long rigid stack that places leverage on the socket. Route the headphone cable so that standing up will not pull the amp off a shelf or tug the headphones from your head.
Audition the quiet setup itself
Try the amp through the headphones you intend to use, starting with a low output level. The headphone sound may use its own speaker or cabinet simulation, so it need not resemble the small built-in speaker exactly. Compare clean and driven settings at comfortable levels instead of assuming the headphone path is merely a quieter version of the room sound.
If you play along with music, check how that source connects and how its level is controlled. An auxiliary input, Bluetooth playback and USB audio are different features. A model can offer one without the others. Confirm that the backing track and guitar can be balanced without repeatedly adjusting the phone or computer.
Keep the controls accessible
Place the amp where the headphone volume and power switch are easy to reach. A floor position may be sensible for speaker use but awkward for a headphone cable. Do not block vents or place the amp in a closed cupboard to hide it. Follow its placement requirements even when the speaker is muted.
Think about your practice routine beyond the first preset. Can you recall a clean sound quickly, tune without disruption and hear a metronome? A large effects list is less valuable if ordinary volume adjustment is buried in an app you do not want to open every evening.
Before deciding, disconnect and reconnect the normal accessories using the recommended power and volume procedure. The useful setup is one you can establish calmly in a minute or two, with known output behavior and enough cable reach to play without tension on the connections.
